For several years I’ve been researching MCRs industrial wealth and considering the price paid. The industrial model relied upon transatlantic slavery. MCR has a history of activism and mill workers, who worked in poor conditions, actively supported abolition. For many years there has been less dialogue about slavery, but it is important we consider its legacy and how it continues to impact people in our society. Being aware of history and the present can help inform anti racist action and celebrate multiculturalism.
